When you think about visiting a new place, what do you look for? For most people, the answer is an experience. They look for the attractions and points of interest, restaurants and accommodations, and any other resources the area has to offer. A convention and visitors bureau is a gold mine not only for packets and brochures detailing the city’s various features, but also friendly local faces who can show you things about the area you’d never even think of. The High Point Convention and Visitors Bureau takes this friendly and engaging experience to the next level. With a stunning display of over 20 galleries filled with beautiful pictures, brochures and flyers, and interactive touch screen kiosks as well, the High Point CVB Regional Visitors Center has combined elegant sophistication and chic, modern fun to create a completely unique travel experience. And they’re just getting started!
The High Point Convention and Visitors Bureau is an asset to the community as well as its visitors. It offers various programs through multiple committees designed to provide assistance to local businesses and partners in promoting their invaluable contribution to guests. One such example of how the High Point CVB is dedicated to helping the community is its Welcome High Point committee. The Welcome High Point committee was established to showcase the city of High Point as a great place to live. Through this committee, by building on the partnership with the High Point Regional Association of Realtors (HPRAR) and the Real Estate Certification Program, realtors utilize the Regional Visitors Center as a tool and a starting point when recruiting potential homebuyers to the area.
A major responsibility of the High Point CVB is to help promote and grow tourism in High Point. One of the ways the High Point CVB strives to fulfill this mission is its active effort to build and expand High Point’s sports, particularly youth sports and tournaments. The CVB strives to build connections with members of the community who can influence this change to make High Point a year-round destination for state, regional and national sporting events as well as supports existing local sports teams and youth tournaments. By expanding the radius of sports outside of the existing pool of participating citizens, we will attract more teams and drum up more tourism that will inevitably funnel back into supporting those very High Point citizens (creating less of a tax burden for residents and establishing an enjoyable and diverse experience for visitors).
The Community Relations committee, another CVB outreach effort, channels its energy and resources into the High Point ambassador program, an initiative created to educate the community and businesses on what’s happening in High Point so they can become true ambassadors for High Point. Who better to promote their city than the people who live in it?! The Community Relations committee establishes a system of advocacy by the community for the community to make sure that when a visitor asks a resident about what High Point has to offer, our ambassadors are ready to provide details of all the incredible offerings of their city.
When you look at a place to visit or a place to live, you search for a place that will meet your needs, whether that be good food or shopping, an active community, or a little bit of everything. High Point certainly entertains a vast range of tastes with the upcoming children’s museum and family fun facilities for kids, a growing community scene for young adults, and perhaps most impressively, a plethora of sophisticated, relaxing, and entertaining establishments for those looking for a place to retire. In fact, High Point is a certified retirement community as sponsored through the state of North Carolina. This compilation of accessible opportunities is seen through yet another example of how the High Point CVB aids the community: the Partners of Excellence. The Partners of Excellence program is an established network of accredited local hotels, restaurants, and other attractions. This benefits High Point businesses as well as our visitors by keeping our partners accountable for giving customers the best possible experience.
High Point is the Home Furnishings Capital of the World. We have over 60 retail stores and outlets and an unparalleled market for furniture. But the High Point Convention and Visitors Bureau offers something that goes beyond what’s on the surface. Design Access is an exclusive experience with High Point CVB preferred designers for consumers who want the best shopping experience possible. Design Access offers individual admission to showrooms that are not available to the general public as well as personalized interior designer services to contribute to and assist with the selection and buying process.
These programs, information resources, and committees fulfill one of the major goals of the High Point CVB: to establish and cultivate a top-notch tourism experience for our visitors.
The other responsibility of the High Point CVB is to contract and host meetings and conventions. High Point is a premier destination for conventions and corporate meetings. Because of our accessibility to four major highways, our Red Lion Hotel located downtown has 252 rooms available and 12,000 square feet of meeting space in their facility alone, not to mention the over 9,000 square feet of meeting space and 1,400+ rooms across the other 21 hotels and accommodations in the greater High Point area. In the past, High Point has hosted several events, conferences, and conventions including the Miss North Carolina USA and the Miss North Carolina Teen USA pageants, the Furniture City Classic soccer tournament, the ConGregate science fiction convention, as well as various minor corporate and government meetings. Our city has a strong track record of repeat business because the complimentary services we provide our groups, such as assistance with hotel bids, assistance with registration, welcome bags, brochures and souvenirs, and public relations assistance. As shown by this extensive and varied track record from successfully fulfilled opportunities, High Point is certainly a city worth considering for any need an organization might have.
With over 40 major attractions ranging from the arts, history and heritage, to nightlife, wine and beer, to outdoors, kids, and family prospects, and more than 70 restaurants, cafes, and eateries for any taste, High Point is a year-round treasure with something for everyone who visits.
